Tax Refunds ; Are We Addicted?
Most Americans are addicted to tax refunds. More than 75% of U.S. taxpayers give Uncle Sam an interest-free loan year after year. Others end up owing money. You can fix this by asking your employer for a new W-4, the form that controls how much tax is withheld from your paycheck. The more allowances you claim on the W-4, the less tax will be withheld; the fewer you claim, the more tax will be withheld. You can also ask your employer to withhold a flat amount from your paycheck. For some, higher withholding can help avoid the hassle of paying quarterly estimated taxes on additional income.
